About Erin

Erin Bush bioErin N. Bush is a doctoral student at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I study late 19th/early 20th century American history with minors in digital humanities and gender studies.

My research area is American crime and the cultural responses to crime. I'm specifically interested in the cultural constructs of insanity and diseases of women and how they affected perceptions of criminal behavior. My other academic interests include leisure and private life, growth of the middle class, urbanization and industrial growth, the South, and the cultures of the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era, and the Jazz Age.

I received a bachelor’s degree with honors in American history and journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated summa cum laude with a master’s degree in American history from George Mason University.
